The Moroccan star won the awards of best player and top scorer at the African Nations Championship.
Morocco did not only lift the trophy of the 2021 African Nations Championship but as well carried home the awards of best player, top scorer and best goalkeeper. Soufiane Rahimi, one of Raja Casablanca’s finest wrote his name in the golden books of local football by carrying those of best player and top scorer. He was handed the awards on Sunday February 7, 2021 after his team beat Mali 2-0 in the CHAN final. He received the top scorer award from the hands of Cameroon’s legendary striker, Samuel Eto’o.
It was indeed a well-merited recognition given that the 24-year-old striker was the architect of most impressive moves of the Moroccan side during the tournament. His goal-scoring prowess and football tactics made his opponents tremble at his sight. His steadfastness in the midfield as well destabilised some opponents who succumbed woefully to the Atlas Lions. He netted two goals in his team’s 5-2 win against Uganda meanwhile he destabilised the Cameroonian team after getting the first goal in their quarterfinal encounter. In all, Rahimi topped the scoring chart in the competition with five goals. He as well received the title of Man of the Match in three encounters. With Rahimi’s performance at the continental jamboree, it is no news that international clubs will be hungry to have him in their squad.
